Sensex, Nifty End Near Day’s High; Realty Stocks Outperform

Closing Bell
Indian equity markets shrugged off three days of sideways movement to end near the highest point of the day. This, despite the absence of banking stocks contributing to the surge.
The S&P BSE Sensex ended 0.87% higher at 46,666 while the NSE Nifty 50 index rose 0.85% to end at 13,682. Both benchmark indices registered new record highs.
It was the real estate stocks that outperformed in today's session. The Nifty Realty index ended with gains of 5.1% - its biggest single-day gain since August 27, this year. The index ended at a 10-month high.
The other index that outperformed in today's session was the Nifty Metal index, which ended with gains of 1.8% and at the highest level since November 2018. This was the fifth straight day of gains for the Metal index.
The Nifty Auto and Nifty Pharma index gained 1% each while the Nifty I.T. index rose 0.8%.
Broader markets outperformed in today's session. The Nifty Midcap index gained 1.1% while the Smallcap index ended 1% higher.
The India Volatility Index ended below the mark of 20 for the 11th straight session, ending 0.47% lower at 19.25.
1,144 stocks on the NSE ended with gains while 746 declined.

Opening Bell
Indian equity markets have opened higher after three days of sideways movement, scaling new highs in the process as well.
The S&P BSE Sensex opened 0.7% higher at 46,573 while the NSE Nifty 50 index opened above the mark of 13,600 - up 0.7% at 13,663.
Among sectoral indices, the metal index is extending gains, opening 1.1% higher as is the Nifty Auto index, which has opened with gains of 1%.
The Nifty Bank is up 0.75% while the FMCG and Pharma indices have opened with gains of 0.5% each.
Broader markets too have opened higher in today's session. The Nifty midcap index is up 0.6% while the Smallcap index is up 0.7% at the start of trade.
1,280 stocks on the NSE have opened with gains while 286 stocks are declining.

Three Days Of Sideways Movement

Indian equity markets have had three days of sideways movement. The benchmarks ended little changed on Tuesday after recovering from the day's lowest.
The S&P BSE Sensex recovered more than 400 points, while the NSE Nifty 50 rebounded over 120 points from their respective day's low.
Futures are indicating a positive start to the trading day. The Singapore-traded SGX Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50 Index’s performance in India, rose 0.4% to 13,635 as of 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday.
Punjab National Bank is out of the F&O ban, while Canara Bank remains.
Asian markets are gaining this morning after their peers in the U.S. halted a four-day losing streak overnight. Besides, benchmarks in Australia are outperforming, while those in Japan and South Korea are trading with gains.
Futures on the Dow Jones are trading 20 points lower. The index ended with gains of 1.1% on Tuesday.
West Texas Intermediate crude fell 0.2% to $47.53 per barrel, while gold was flat at $1,852.2/Oz.
