Sterlite Tech is prepping to get “5G ready” by expanding its optical fibre and fibre-cabling capacities.

“We believe as (our) current capex (capital expeniture) starts phasing out, 5G will move into trials in the current year,” Dr Anand Agarwal, group chief executive officer of Sterlite Technologies Ltd., told BloombergQuint. “Commercial capex deployment will start happening globally from 2020. We are preparing for that.”

He also said the expansion plans will be financed by internal accruals and marginal short-term borrowings.
