South African Union to Hold Protest March to Glencore Offices

(Bloomberg) -- South Africa’s National Union of Mineworkers is to embark on a march to Glencore Plc’s offices in Witbank in Mpumalanga on Friday to protest working conditions, the union said.

“If nothing positive come out of this peaceful march tomorrow the NUM will mobilize its members in the whole province of Mpumalanga to embark on a full-blown strike,” NUM Highveld
Regional Secretary Tshilidzi Mathavha said in an emailed statement Thursday. “The union is perturbed by how Glencore treats NUM members and workers in general,” he said.

Among the issues that the union is protesting are the company’s housing policy and dismissal of workers, it said.
