South Africa Reports Outbreak of African Swine Fever

(Bloomberg) --

South Africa has detected an outbreak of African Swine Fever in Eastern Cape Province, Fin24 reported, citing Thoko Didiza, the minister of agriculture, forestry and fisheries.

The outbreak was discovered after veterinary services conducted tests on dead animals in the Amathole District Municipality last month, the Cape Town-based website reported.

The cases of the disease were found on a communal farm, which has implemented control measures that include isolating infected pigs, the website said. The outbreak has been reported to the World Organisation for Animal Health, it said.
