The Sensex gained over 1% to 57,037.50. The Nifty also advanced by similar magnitude to close above 17,100.

The market breadth was skewed slightly in the favour of bulls. About 1,764 stocks advanced, 1,629 declined and 117 remained unchanged.

Reliance Industrial Infra Slips Most In Over Six Weeks

Shares of Reliance Industrial Infrastructure shed over 4%, the steepest fall in over six weeks after the company reported decline in net profit in the quarter-ended March.

The market breadth was skewed in the favour of bulls. About 1,873 stocks advanced, 1,412 declined and 130 remained unchanged.

Shares of Ahmedabad-based construction company PSP Projects rose over 5.3%, the most in six sessions.

  • The rise comes after company confirmed securing orders worth Rs 938.76 crore, including fresh work orders worth Rs 511.39 crore and Rs 327.39 crore in FY2021-22 and FY2022-23 respectively.

  • The additional scope in existing contracts is worth Rs 99.90 crore in FY2021-22.

Asian markets were mixed and U.S. equity futures retreated on Wednesday amid high inflation, a hawkish Federal Reserve and China’s Covid challenges.

Nasdaq 100 contracts lost 1% following an after-hours Netflix Inc. slump on poor subscriber numbers. Asian stocks, led by Japan, managed to harness a tailwind from a U.S. rally on Tuesday ahead of Netflix’s results.

The Singapore-traded SGX Nifty, an early barometer of India's benchmark Nifty 50, rose 0.66% to 17,042.50 points as of 7:00 a.m.

Treasury yields rose as expectations of sharp Federal Reserve policy tightening to damp price pressures hardened. Oil pared a portion of overnight losses, while Bitcoin hovered around $41,300.
