Closing Bell

Indian equity benchmarks closed lower for the third consecutive day, dragged by losses in information technology, metals, energy and telecom stocks.

The S&P BSE Sensex index shed 0.55% to 60,923.50. The NSE Nifty 50 Index declined by similar magnitude to close at 18,178.10. Both the benchmarks slipped as much as 1% in intraday trade.

The broader indexes almost mirrored their broader peers with the S&P BSE MidCap index shedding 0.4% and the S&P BSE SmallCap declining 0.7%. Eleven of the 19 sectoral indexes compiled by BSE Ltd. declined, with the S&P BSE Information Technology index falling 2.3%.

The market breadth was skewed neither in favour of bulls nor bears. About 1,610 stocks advanced, 1,676 declined and 140 remained unchanged.

UPL To Acquire 80% Stake In Indonesian Firm PT Excel Meg Indo

UPL said its step down subsidiary, UPL Global Ltd. has entered into a definitive agreement for acquisition of 80% stake in equity share capital of PT Excel Meg Indo- Indonesia.

In an exchange filing, UPL said that PTE has a good presence in Indonesia and wide range of agro-chemical offers. UPL hoped the acqusition to provide market access and access to product portfolio of PTE.

UPL intended to complete the acquisition of 80% stake by December 31, 2021. PTE has been valued at an enterprise value of $25 million.

Paint Stocks Slip After Asian Paints Earnings Miss

India’s paint, adhesive and specialty-chemicals manufacturers fell after Asian Paints Ltd. posted second-quarter net income that missed the average analysts’ estimate. 

The nation’s largest paint company by market cap slipped as much as 6.6%, the most in over six months

Mahindra & Mahindra Updates On Litigation Details In Dispute Case With Excise Department

Shares of Asian Paints Ltd. shed over 6.3% in intraday trade, to Rs 2,969.7 apiece after the company reported net income that missed the average analyst estimate, in the September quarter.

Mid-Day Market Update: Sensex, Nifty Edge Lower; Reliance Leads Decline

India's stock benchmarks declined after a volatile start, dragged by losses in information technology, energy, metal and realty stocks.

The S&P BSE Sensex shed 0.82% to 61,259.66. The NSE Nifty 50 index also declined by similar magnitude to 18,144.10. Reliance Industries Ltd. contributed the most to the index decline, decreasing 2.7% and Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. had the largest move, decreasing 2.9%. In midday trading, 37 of 50 shares fell, while 13 rose.

The broader indices almost mirrored their larger peers with S&P BSE MidCap little and S&P BSE SmallCap indexes declining over 0.5%. Thirteen of the 19 sectoral indexes compiled by the BSE Ltd. declined, with S&P BSE ‌Information Technology index falling over 2.2%.

The market breadth was skewed in favour of bears. About 1,470 stocks advanced, 1,680 declined and 154 remained unchanged.

Opening Bell: Sensex, Nifty Open Higher; Metals, Power Stocks Advance

India's stock benchmarks opened higher, aided by gains in metal, power and banking stocks, amid mixed global cues.

The S&P BSE Sensex rose 0.30% to 61,445.06. The NSE Nifty 50 advanced by a similar magnitude to 18,336.90.

The broader indexes outperformed their broader peers with the S&P BSE MidCap index and the S&P BSE SmallCap gaining over 0.5%. The market breadth was skewed in favour of bulls. About 1,681 stocks advanced, 576 declined and 68 remained unchanged.

Rupee Bond Traders To Weigh High Oil Price Impact

Traders will weigh the continued impact that high crude oil prices could have on Indian bonds and the currency, as crude prices remaining above $85 a barrel represent a key risk for the world’s third biggest importer of the commodity.

Pepperfry Plans To File For India IPO By June 2022: Mint

Furniture marketplace Pepperfry is planning to file for an initial public offering in the first half of 2022, Mint reported, citing Ashish Shah, co-founder and chief operating officer of the company. 

  • The company also will raise a pre-listing funding round by the year-end.

  • Pre-IPO round will be between $50 million and $100 million.

SGX Nifty Hints At Opening Gains; Asian Paints, JSW Steel, TVS Motor In Focus

Asian stocks were mixed early Thursday as investors weighed corporate earnings, elevated inflation and risks from China’s property sector.

Japanese shares edged down, while Australia and South Korea fluctuated. U.S. futures slipped after a mixed Wall Street session that saw the S&P 500 rise to the cusp of a record and the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 dip. Tesla Inc.’s revenue fell short of estimates but third-quarter profit beat projections despite semiconductor and supply-chain challenges.

India’s SGX Nifty 50 Index futures for Oct. delivery rose 0.2% to 18,359.50, while MSCI Asia Pacific Index +0.1%. The NSE Nifty 50 Index fell 0.8% Wednesday to 18,266.60.

The dollar remained lower, crude oil climbed and Bitcoin was around $66,000 after setting an all-time high.

Traders will be monitoring cash-strapped developer China Evergrande Group, which terminated talks to sell its property-management arm and asked for its shares to resume trading.

Back home, L&T Finance, Havells, Just Dial, Shoppers Stop, Angel Broking may react as the companies reported quarterly results after the market closed Wednesday. Asian Paints, JSW Steel, TVS Motor, Mphasis, LIC Housing, Lodha are among the companies scheduled to report earnings Thuesday. Foreign investors bought net Rs 48.75 crore of stocks on Oct. 18 and Oct. 19, according to NSDL website.
