India's stock benchmarks advanced for the fourth consecutive session, their longest winning streak in over two months since the seven-day streak ended Oct. 18, 2021, aided by banking, metal and oil and gas stocks.

The S&P BSE Sensex rose over 0.6% to 60,223.15. This is the first time the 30-stock gauge close above 60,000 in over six weeks.

The NSE Nifty 50 advanced by similar magnitude to 17,925.25. Bajaj Finserv Ltd. had the largest increase, rising 5.0%. Today, 34 of 50 shares rose, while 16 fell.

The broader indices underperformed their larger peers with the S&P BSE MidCap adding 0.35% while the S&P BSE SmallCap was little changed. Thirteen of the 19 sectoral indices compiled by BSE Ltd. advanced with S&P BSE Bankex rising nearly 2.5%.

The market breadth was skewed in the favour of bulls. About 1,828 stocks advanced, 1,556 declined and 97 remained unchanged.

IDBI Bank Shares Climb The Most In Over Three Weeks

Shares of IDBI Bank rose 11%, the biggest intraday gain in over three weeks, to Rs 52.6 apiece. Trading volume was triple the 20-day average volume, for this time of the day.

Share price crossed above the 50-day simple moving average, indicating potential upward price momentum.

NELCO Climbs On Rs 40 Crore Order From ONGC To Enhance Communication Infrastructure

Shares of NELCO Ltd. rose over 2% in intraday trade to Rs 730.75 apiece after the company bagged contract from ONGC to enhance its communication infrastructure at offshore sites.

The scope of the contract, worth over Rs 40 crore, entails supply, commission and maintenance of ONGC's captive very small aperture terminal (VSAT) based network.

Nelco will revamp the captive network of ONGC and enable voice and data communication between offshore installations and onshore locations.

The S&P BSE MidCap almost mirrored its larger peers while S&P BSE SmallCap underperformed, as it remained little changed. Barring S&P BSE Information Technology, Teck and Power, all the other 16 sectoral indices compiled by BSE Ltd. rose with S&P BSE Bankex and S&P BSE Finance adding 2%.

Shares of Linde India Ltd. rose 6%, the most in eight weeks. Trading volume was 13 times the average for this time of the day.

Shares rose to Rs 2,679 apiece, higher than any close since Oct. 11.

The stock was the best performer among peers.

India's stock benchmarks opened little changed, as losses in information technology stocks were offset by gains in banking stocks, after a tech sell off in Wall Street added to concerns over omicron strain and sapped sentiment.

The S&P BSE Sensex rose 0.1% to 59,940.64. The NSE Nifty 50 was little changed at 17,811.50.

The market breadth was skewed in the favour of bulls. About 1,627 stocks advanced, 1,076 declined and 93 remained unchanged.

Bharti Airtel, Hughes Network Form JV For Satellite Broadband In India

Bharti Airtel and Hughes Network Systems's subsidiary Hughes Communications India Pvt Ltd. announced a joint venture to provide satellite broadband services in India.

  • The entity combines the Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) businesses of both firms to offer networking solutions using satellite connectivity.

India May Extend Tax Incentives For Affordable Housing, Reports Mint

  • India is likely to extend incentives for purchases of affordable homes for another year, newspaper Mint reported citing people it didn’t identify. 

  • The government will extend the additional interest deduction of Rs 1,50,000 on affordable housing loans till March 2023, the report said.

  • First time home buyers are offered tax incentives for affordable houses priced as much as Rs 45 lakh.

Mumbai To Tighten Curbs If Daily Caseload Rises To 20,000, Reports Times Of India

Mumbai’s city administration may consider further curbs on movement and businesses if daily addition of new Covid-19 cases surges to 20,000, Times of India reported.

SGX Nifty Hints At Opening Losses; Bharti Airtel, HUL, SBI, Bandhan Bank, Thermax In Focus

Stocks in Asia opened mixed on Wednesday amid concerns over interest rates increases that dragged down U.S. stocks from a record.

Shares in Japan were volatile, while they fell in Australia and South Korea. U.S. futures dipped after a tech selloff dragged the Nasdaq 100. The S&P 500 was little changed Tuesday.

India’s SGX Nifty 50 Index futures for January delivery fell 0.4% to 17,805.00, while MSCI Asia Pacific Index -0.4%. The NSE Nifty 50 gained 1% on Tuesday to 17,805.25.

Crude oil in New York held gains. OPEC and its allies agreed to revive more halted production as the outlook for global oil markets improved. Elsewhere, Bitcoin traded near $46,000.

Back home, Markit India Services PMI and Composite PMI data for December will be released. Foreign investors bought net Rs 2,320-crore stocks on Monday, according to NSDL website.

  • Bharti Airtel: Has dropped plan for the new corporate structure. The company will instead merge two of its units with itself to simplify its structure and consolidate its fibre assets. The company will pursue plan to eventually fold its DTH business Bharti Telemedia into Airtel.

  • SBI: To invest $20 million in Pine Labs. Pine Labs is looking to invest in scaling Plural, its newly launched brand of online payment products and emerge as an omnichannel partner of choice for merchants. The bank also said IMPS transactions up to Rs 5 lakh done using net banking and mobile banking will not attract service charge.

  • Bandhan Bank: Total deposits grew 3% over the preceding quarter to Rs 84,500 crore in Q3. Loans and advances grew 9% to Rs 89,213 crore. CASA ratio stood at 45.6% versus 44.6% in the previous quarter. Collection efficiency was at 93%. These are provisional numbers.

  • AU Small Finance Bank: Total Deposits grew 13% over the preceding quarter to Rs 44,278 crore in Q3. CASA ratio at 39% versus 30% in the previous quarter.   • Thermax: Bagged Rs 545.6-crore orders from an Indian power public sector company to set up flue gas desulphurisation systems for their two units of 500-MW capacity each in Uttar Pradesh.

  • GAIL (India): Has acquired a 26% stake held by IL&FS Energy Development Co. and IL&FS Financial Services in ONGC Tripura Power Co.

  • Future Group stocks: The Delhi High Court has dismissed petitions by the Future Group seeking a direction to the SIAC arbitral tribunal to first decide on its application on termination of arbitration proceedings with Amazon.
