Closing Bell: Sensex, Nifty Decline For Second Session Ahead Of FOMC Outcome

Indian equity benchmarks closed lower for the second consecutive session, dragged by telecom, banking, auto, consumer durables stocks. Focus shifts to two-day FOMC meeting which begins later today, as taper announcement is expected.

The S&P BSE Sensex index fell 0.43% to 59,771.92. The NSE Nifty 50 Index declined by similar magnitude to 17,829.20. HDFC Bank Ltd. contributed the most to the index decline, decreasing 1.6%. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. had the largest drop, falling 3.4%. Today, 27 of 50 shares fell, while 23 rose.

The broader indexes almost mirrored their larger peers with the S&P BSE MidCap index and the S&P BSE SmallCap index shedding over 0.2%. Ten of the 19 sectoral indexes compiled by BSE Ltd. declined, with the S&P BSE Telecom, Bankex, Auto, Consumer Durables indexes shedding over 1%

The market breadth was neither skewed in favour of bulls nor bears. About 1,596 stocks advanced, 1,643 declined and 162 remained unchanged.

Hindalco To Acquire Polycab's 100% Equity Stake In Ryker

Hindalco Industries Ltd. announced acquisition of 100% equity stake in Ryker Base Pvt. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Polycab India Ltd.

  • The acquisition will be through Hindalco's subsidiary Renuka Investments & Finance Ltd., the company said in a exchange filing.

  • The purchase consideration for the equity stake is based on an enterprise value of Rs 323 crore.

  • Ryker's 2.25 lakh tonne plant to manufacture cast and rolled copper wire rods is located at Waghodia (Gujarat). The acquisition is expected to strengthen Hindalco's copper rod manufacturing capacity.

Infosys Ltd. announced strategic collaboration with Shell Global Solutions International BV (Shell) as commercialization partner of the "Shell Inventory Optimizer" solution.

Shell and Infosys will launch Shell Inventory Optimizer as the first product offered to its energy customers.

The solution is expected reduce time and labour required to complete maintenance operations and aids cost efficiency.

The S&P BSE Sensex shed 0.18% to 59,923.07. The NSE Nifty 50 index also declined by similar magnitude to 17,868.30. ICICI Bank Ltd. contributed the most to the index decline, decreasing 1.2%. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. had the largest drop, falling 2.9%. In midday trading, 26 of 50 shares fell, while 24 rose.

Cipla's Unit Gets Deal Termination Notice From Avenue Therapeutics

  • Cipla Ltd.'s wholly owned step down subsidiary InvaGen Pharmaceuticals Inc., USA received a notice of termination of the Stock Purchase and Merger Agreement' from Avenue Therapeutics Inc. InvaGen had earlier entered into the deal with Avenue Therapeutics, but the second stage of the deal could not completed within the agreed timelines.

  • InvaGen is evaluating the notice from Avenue Therapeutics for further steps. Avenue Therapeutics specialises in the development and commercialisation of intravenous (IV) Tramadol.

Latent View Analytics Sets Price Range For Rs 600 Crore India IPO

Latent View Analytics Ltd. has set a price range of 190-197 rupees a share for its initial public offering that seeks to raise as much as Rs 600 crore ($80.3 million), according to an advertisement in the Financial Express newspaper Wednesday.

  • The Chennai-based data analytics firm is looking to raise Rs 474 crore by selling new shares, while its founder and shareholders will sell Rs 126 crore worth of shares in the IPO

  • Founder Adugudi Viswanathan Venkatraman is selling Rs 60.15 crore of shares; Ramesh Hariharan will sell Rs 35 crore of shares

  • Investors can bid for minimum 76 shares of face value 1 rupee in the IPO, which will be open for subscriptions Nov. 10 to Nov. 12; anchor investors will bid on Nov. 9

  • Axis Capital, ICICI Securities and Haitong Securities India are bookrunning manager for the issue

Adani Ports October Cargo Volume 24.8 Metric Tonnes

  • Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. reported cargo volume for October at 24.8 million metric tonnes.

  • Hazira Port handled record liquid cargo volume of 0.49 million metric tonnes

  • APSEZ handled cargo volume of 184.67 million metric tonnes during seven months of FY22 (including 18.01 MMT for Gangavaram Port), up 50% YoY

SGX Nifty Hints At Opening Gains; Bharti Airtel, SBI, Eicher Motors In Focus

Asian stocks were steady on Wednesday as traders mulled another all-time high for U.S. equities and a retreat in short-term sovereign yields ahead of the Federal Reserve policy decision.

Stability in iron-ore prices bolstered commodity-exporter Australia, while shares in China and Hong Kong fluctuated. Japan is shut for a holiday. S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures were little changed following fresh peaks for U.S. shares.

India’s SGX Nifty 50 Index futures for November delivery rose 0.2% to 17,959.50, while MSCI Asia Pacific Index shed 0.2%. The NSE Nifty 50 Index fell 0.2% on Tuesday to 17,888.95.

A gauge of the dollar held a climb. In China, Premier Li Keqiang said the economy is facing new downward pressure.

Elsewhere, oil fell as the U.S. increased pressure on OPEC+ to boost supplies. Bitcoin was around $63,000 amid a rally in cryptocurrencies.

Back home, Bharti Airtel, PNB Housing, Trent may react as the companies reported quarterly results after the market closed on Tuesday. SBI, Eicher Motors, Gujarat Petronet, Bata India are among the companies scheduled to report earnings on Wednesday. Foreign investors sold net Rs 278 crore of stocks on Monday, according to NSDL website.
