Sensex, Nifty Close Little Changed As I.T. Gains Offset Losses In Healthcare, Realty Stocks

Closing Bell

India's stock benchmarks erased gains to close little changed, as advance in information technology and realty stocks were offset by decline in healthcare and realty stocks. The two measures however snapped a three-day losing streak.

The Sensex fell over 800 points from day's high to close little changed at 55,702.23. The Nifty also erased day's gains to close below 16,700 for the second consecutive session. The move follows Wednesday's loss of 2.3% for Nifty. Infosys contributed most to index gains, rising 3.2%. Tech Mahindra had the largest increase, adding 4.2%. Today 21 of 50 shares rose, while 29 fell.

The broader indices underperformed their larger peers with S&P BSE MidCap losing 0.2% and S&P BSE SmallCap falling 0.3%. Ten of the 19 sectoral indices compiled by BSE Ltd. advanced with S&P BSE Information Technology and Power indices gaining nearly 2%. On the flipside, S&P BSE Realty shed over 1.5%.

The market breadth was skewed in the favour of bears. About 1,523 stocks advanced, 1,819 declined and 119 remained unchanged.

Shares of Time Technoplast surged over 16% to highest since 2019 after the company announced that it signed a MoU with Tesla Power USA for orders worth Rs 100 crore.

Cartrade Tech Tumbles Most In Over Two Months

Shares of Cartrade Tech tumbled nearly 10.5%, the steepest intraday decline in over two months since Feb. 24.

  • The decline comes after the company reported net loss of Rs 25.67 crore in Q4 compared to a profit of Rs 13.25 crore YoY, post market hours on Wednesday.

Shares of Firstsource Solutions rose over 6%, the most in over five weeks after the company reported net income for the quarter-ended March that beat the average analyst estimate.

Hero MotoCorp Rises As Firm Hints At Healthy Demand Momentum At Earnings Call

Shares of Hero MotoCorp rose over 5.3%, the most in over a week. In an analysts call on Wednesday, the company said that demand scenario is looking good. The company also informed that it was able to bring down the inventory to six to seven weeks.

  • The company said it had a market share of 82% in March and had gained share month-on-month over January, February and March, at the entry level.

  • The company also added that it believed that growth will accelerate further as chip shortage eases.

  • Trading volume on the stock is twice the 30-day average. The stock is among the top gainers in NSE Nifty 50 index and top gainer in Nifty Auto index.

  • Of the 50 analysts tracking the company, 33 maintain 'buy', 12 suggest 'hold' and five recommend 'sell'.

Tata Power Secures India's Largest Single Solar EPC Order Of 1 GW For Rs 5,500 Crore From SJVN

Tata Power's subsidiary Tata Power Solar Systems secured India's largest single solar EPC order of 1 Giga Watt for approximately Rs 5,500 crore from SJVN.

  • The order will be completed with 24 months and will aim to reduce 22,87,128 kg of carbon emission over 5,000+ acres of land in Rajasthan.

  • The project, which will be developed under the CPSU scheme of MNRE is likely to generate 2,500 million units annually.

Shares of Tata Power rose over 2.5% in today's session.

Mid-Day Market Update: Sensex, Nifty Add 1%; Hero MotoCorp, Tata Steel, Infosys Advance

India's stock benchmarks rose, aided by gains in aided by gains in metal and information technology stocks. The rise follows three-day losing streak for the two measures. On Wednesday, the Sensex and Nifty logged losses over 2% after RBI dialled in a surprise repo rate hike of 40bps which was followed by a 50bps rate hike by U.S. Federal Reserve.

The Sensex rose 0.92% to 56,181.29. The 30-stock gauge rose nearly 900 points to an intraday high of 56,566.80. The Nifty also advanced by similar magnitude to 16,822.75.

The broader indices underperformed their larger peers with S&P BSE MidCap rising 0.5% and S&P BSE SmallCap gaining 0.6%. Barring S&P BSE Realty, all the other 18 sectoral indices compiled by BSE Ltd. advanced with S&P BSE Metal rising 2%.

The market breadth was skewed in the favour of bulls. About 2,039 stocks advanced, 1,216 declined and 120 remained unchanged.

Sugar Mills Contract To Export 8.2 Million-8.3 Million Tonnes, Says ISMA

Sugar mills in India have contracted to export 8.2 million tonnes to 8.3 million tonnes since October 1.

  • About 6.8 million to 7 million tonnes estimated to have been physically shipped from country by end of April compared to 4.32 million tonnes a year ago.

  • Total exports may hit 9 million tonnes in the year ending September 30.

Ashok Leyland Up Most In 7 Weeks

Shares of Ashok Leyland Ltd. gained 4.5%, the most in seven weeks to Rs 126 apiece.

The stock was the best performer among peers. This comes as the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association posted growth across all segments of vehicles.

Tata Group Forays Into E-Cargo Mobility

Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran announced Tata Group’s foray into e-cargo mobility with the launch of the electric version of Tata Ace.

Girish Wagh, executive director at Tata Motors Ltd., said the company has signed pacts with e-commerce companies for as many as 39,000 Ace electric vehicles.

L&T Awarded 'Large' Contract In Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project

Larsen & Toubro Ltd., in an exchange filing, said it has won a 'large' contract in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project, also referred to as the Bullet Train Project.

L&T Construction's railways division has secured a·contract from the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. to construct 116 kilometers of high-speed ballastless trackwork on the route.

L&T is already executing civil viaduct, station and special steel bridge packages for the project.

L&T defines large contracts as those valued between Rs 2,500 crore to 5,000 crore. Shares of the company gained as much as 1.95% to Rs 1,665.85 apiece intraday.

Equitas SFB Names Two New Executive Directors

Equitas Small Finance Bank Ltd. has appointed Murali Vaidyanathan and Rohit Phadke as executive directors of the bank.

The appointment shall take effect from the date of approval of proposal by RBI and shall be for a period of three years or for such term as approved by RBI.

Vaidyanathan, is the head – liabilities, wealth management, digital banking and marketing, of the bank, while Phadke is head - assets.

Shares of the company jumped 4.8%, the most in just about a month on the announcement.

HUL To Raise Prices By Up To 15%, Reports CNBC-TV18

Hindustan Unilever Ltd. has raised prices of products ranging from Pond's talcum powder to Clinic Plus, CNBC-TV18 reported citing anonymous sources.

Shares of ABB India rose nearly 9%, the most in over five months after reporting sequential growth in net profit, for the quarter-ended March, post market hours Wednesday.

Total Vehicle Retail For April 2022 Up 37% YoY: FADA

All categories were in the green. Two-Wheelers vehicle gained 38% YoY while Three-Wheelers rose 96%. CV, PV and Tractors segments rose by 25% and 26%, respectively.

The rupee is likely to appreciate against the dollar after the RBI’s surprise rate hike on Wednesday.

Sensex, Nifty Set To Open Higher; Tata Consumer, Deepak Nitrite, Dabur, Marico In Focus

Bonds rose and the dollar held a drop on Thursday after the Federal Reserve raised interest rates as expected to tackle inflation while countering fears of super-sized hikes.

Shares in Australia gained and futures pointed to a positive open in Hong Kong. U.S. futures were volatile following a 3% jump in the S&P 500 index, the biggest since 2020.

The Singapore-traded SGX Nifty, an early barometer of India's benchmark Nifty 50, rose over 1% to 16,852 points as of 6:45 a.m.

Fed Chair Jerome Powell said a 75 basis points hike is “not something that the committee is actively considering,” spurring a market rally. The Fed raised rates a half point and signaled similar moves for the next couple of meetings.

Climbs in oil and wheat underlined the risks. Crude hit $108 a barrel on a European Union plan to ban Russian barrels over the next six months. Wheat rose on the possibility of export curbs by major grower India. Bitcoin hovered around $39,600.
