Pakistan Islamist Group to End Protest After Deal With Government
(Bloomberg) -- A Pakistani right-wing religious group said it’s ending a protest over a Supreme Court verdict that scrapped the conviction of a Christian woman on death row for blasphemy.
The Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan will end its sit-ins in various cities of the Muslim-majority country after an agreement with the government, its spokesman Bilal Liaqat said on phone. The government won’t object to an appeal against the court judgment that had freed Aasia Bibi, while it has agreed to release all the group’s arrested supporters, he said, citing parts of the pact.
