
Sensex, Nifty Decline For Second Day; PSU Banks Continue Outperformance
Second Day Of Losses
Indian equities ended lower for the second day in a row as technology names and drugmakers continued to underperform.
The S&P BSE Sensex ended 0.8% lower at 51,703 while the NSE Nifty 50 index held on to its support zone of 15,200 to end at 15,208, down 0.7%.
Among the sectoral indices, PSU Banks continued their outperformance for the fourth day in a row, led by the four top movers of Tuesday itself. The PSU Bank index ended 5.9% higher at their highest level in 13 months.
Jagran Group stocks were the top performers on the Nifty Media index in today's session. The index ended with gains of 2.2%.
The Nifty Pharma index was the top sectoral laggard in today's session, ending 1.7% lower while the Nifty I.T. index declined 1.3% and was among the other sectoral laggards.
Broader markets were little changed. The Midcap index ended 0.3% higher while the Small cap index ended flat.
The India Volatility Index ended 1.3% lower at 21.5.
922 stocks on the NSE gained in today's session while 977 stocks ended with losses.
