Sensex, Nifty Halt Three-Day Gaining Streak As RIL, ITC Drag

Closing Bell: Sensex, Nifty Halt Three-Day Gaining Streak As RIL, ITC Drag

Indian equity benchmarks halted a three-day winning streak, led by the declines in Reliance Industries Ltd. and ITC. Ltd.

The S&P BSE Sensex fell 0.17 percent to end at 40,938.72 and the NSE Nifty 50 fell 0.27 percent to 12,053.95. The broader markets represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index fell 0.31 percent.

In the opening trade, the 31-share index had risen as much as 0.43 percent to hit an all-time high at 41,185.03. The NSE Nifty Bank, too, hit an all-time high at 32,186.95 after rising as much as 0.54 percent. It swung to fall as much as 0.36 percent thereafter and closed 0.13 percent lower.

The market breadth was tilted in favour of sellers. About 990 stocks declined and 807 shares advanced on National Stock Exchange.

Eight out of 11 sectoral gauges compiled by NSE ended lower, led by the NSE Nifty Metal Index’s 1.4 percent fall. On the flipside, the NSE Nifty IT Index was the top sectoral gainer, up 0.97 percent.

Global Markets Update: Europe Stocks Gain Along With U.S. Futures

Stocks in Europe and U.S. equity futures started the week on the front foot amid hopes a partial trade deal between America and China eases a key risk for investors headed into year-end.

  • Futures on the S&P 500 Index gained 0.3 percent.
  • The Stoxx Europe 600 Index rose 0.7 percent.
  • The MSCI Asia Pacific Index dipped 0.1 percent.
  • The MSCI Emerging Market Index was little changed.

Dishman Carbogen Amcis Gains The Most In Three Weeks

Shares of Dishman Carbogen Amcis rose as much as 6.7 percent, the most since Nov. 25, to Rs 128.60.

The stock declined 44 percent in the past 12 months compared to a 14 percent gain in the Sensex, The stock traded at 8.9 times its estimated earnings per share for the coming year, according to Bloomberg data.

Sterlite Technologies Halt Two-Day Gaining Streak, Shares Fall Nearly 6%

Shares of Sterlite Technologies halted their two-day gaining streak and fell as much as 5.7 percent to Rs 114.25.

The stock traded at 8.1 times its estimated earnings per share for the coming year, Bloomberg data showed. Of the shares traded on NSE, 53 percent were at the ask price and 41 percent were at the bid, according to Bloomberg data.

Nifty Bank Retreats From Record High

The NSE Nifty Bank Index, which hit an all-time high at 32,186.95, swung from a gain of as much as 0.54 percent to fall as much as 0.36 percent.

The declines in the 12-sare gauge were led by RBL Bank Ltd., Punjab National Bank, and HDFC Bank Ltd.

Shares of eClerx Services resumed gains after a one-day blip. The stock rose as much as 7 percent to Rs 537.45.

The stock advanced 12 percent in the past 12 months and rallied 23 percent in the past 30 days, according to Bloomberg data.

The scrip traded at 10 times its estimated earnings per share for the coming year, according to Bloomberg data.

PNB Falls 3% After Under-Reporting Bad Loans By Rs 2,617 Crore In FY19

Shares of Punjab National Bank fell as much as 2.9 percent to Rs 62.60.

The public sector lender under-reported its non-performing assets by Rs 2,617 crore for the fiscal year 2018-19, PTI reported quoting RBI’s risk-assessment report.

The stock had declined 13 percent in the past 12 months compared to a 14 percent rally in the Sensex, Bloomberg data showed.

GAIL Extends Gain For Fourth Day, Shares Rise Nearly 2%

Shares of GAIL extended gains for the fourth consecutive trading session. The stock rose as much as 1.8 percent to Rs 122.

The stock advanced 9.7 percent in four trading sessions. Of the shares traded today on NSE, 53 percent were at the ask price and 39 percent were at the bid, according to Bloomberg data.

F&O Check: Nifty 12,100 Call Option Premium Falls 32%

Nifty’s 12,100 call option contract was among the most active Nifty option contracts on National Stock Exchange.

Premium on the contract, which is set to expire on Dec. 19, fell 31.70 percent to Rs 55.60. Over 5.77 lakh shares were added to the open interest which stood at over 17.58 lakh shares.

Market Check: Sensex, Nifty Erase Gains

Indian equity benchmarks erased opening gains.

The S&P BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty 50 traded little changed at 41,008.81 and 12,083 respectively. The broader markets represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index, too, traded flat.

The 31-share index had earlier risen as much as 0.43 percent to hit an all-time high at 41,185.03

PC Jeweller Extends Rally, Shares Surge 31% In Three Trading Sessions

Shares of PC Jeweller extended gains for the third consecutive trading session. The stock rose as much as 7.5 percent to Rs 28.60.

The scrip advanced 31 percent in three trading sessions, registering its best three-day rally in nine months.

Trading volume was more than three times its 20-day average, according to Bloomberg data.

Reliance Industries Extends Gain For The Fourth Day

Shares of Reliance Industries extended gains for the fourth consecutive trading session. The stock rose as much as 0.69 percent to Rs 1,593.90.

The company’s wholly-owned unit—Reliance Industrial Investments and Holdings signed binding agreements with Brookfield Infrastructure Partners and its institutional partners for an investment of Rs. 25,215 crore in the units to be issued by the Tower Infrastructure Trust, according to its statement on the exchanges.

Besides, the Mukesh Ambani-led conglomerate acquired 51.78 percent stake in Asteria Aerospace for Rs 23.12 crore. The company has proposed to make a further investment of up to Rs 125 crore which will increase the stake to 87.3 percent and the investment is expected to be completed by December 2021.

Reliance Industries traded at 20 times its estimated earnings per share for the coming year, according to Bloomberg data.

AU Small Finance Bank Halts Two-Day Fall

Shares of AU Small Finance Bank rose as much as 1.1 percent to Rs 803.95.

The bank has completed Temasek’s investment in 4.8 percent stake in the Bank. The lender said in a media statement that the Temasek Group has invested Rs 525 crore towards conversion of 1.01 crore warrants.

Post the transaction, the bank’s net worth would increase by more than 4000 crore. Besides, the company will seek RBI’s approval to appoint part time chairman, who will be appointed from March 30, 2020.

The stock advanced 26 percent in the past 12 months compared to a 14 percent advance in the Sensex, Bloomberg data showed.

Sun Pharma Worst Performer On Sensex, Nifty

Shares of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries fell as much as 2.9 percent to Rs 426.40.

The drugmaker received eight Form 483 observations by the U.S. FDA for its Halol facility in Gujarat, according to its statement on the exchanges. The GMP inspection was conducted from Dec. 3-13.

The stock traded at 23 times its estimated earnings per share for the coming year, according to Bloomberg data. The scrip was the worst performer on Sensex and Nifty.

Opening Bell: Sensex Hits Record High; Nifty Above 12,100

Indian equity benchmarks opened higher, extending gains for the fourth consecutive trading session.

The S&P BSE Sensex rose as much as 0.43 percent to hit an all-time high at 41,185.03 and the NSE Nifty 50 rose as much as 0.4 percent to 12,134.65. The broader markets represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index rose 0.15 percent.

The market breadth was tilted in favour of buyers. About 848 stocks advanced and 626 shares declined on National Stock Exchange.

Seven out of 11 sectoral gauges compiled by NSE traded higher, led by the NSE Nifty IT Index’s 0.6 percent gain. On the flipside, the NSE Nifty Pharma Index was the top sectoral loser, down 0.44 percent.

The Singapore-traded SGX Nifty, an early indicator of NSE Nifty 50 Index’s performance in India, fell 0.12 percent to 12,135 as of 8:30 a.m.

Asian stocks were mixed Monday as investors minded that the accord has yet to be signed and may not reflect continuing disagreements.

Stocks were little changed in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Australian shares outperformed. U.S. futures edged higher.
