Sensex, Nifty End Mahurat Trading Session With Gains; OMCs Outperform

Indian equity markets begun Samvat 2077 on a positive note, ending the Mahurat Trading session with modest gains, after cooling off from the session's high.

The S&P BSE Sensex ended 0.45% higher at 43,637 while the NSE Nifty 50 index gained at a record closing high of 12,780 - up 0.5%.

Sectoral indices too ended with modest gains. The I.T and Realty indices ended with gains of 0.5% while the Nifty Pharma index ended with gains of 0.4%.

Nifty Bank, Nifty Auto, Nifty Metal indices ended with gains of 0.2%.

Smallcaps outperformed the benchmarks in today's sessions. The index ended 0.7% higher while the midcap index closed 0.4% higher.

1,391 stocks on the NSE ended with gains while 397 stocks declined.

• Trading at the highest level since February 2020
• Up 22% in six sessions

• Snowman Logistics - Up 20% and trading at the highest level since April 2018. The stock is up for the sixth straight day.
• Allcargo Logistics - Up 3.6% and trading at the highest level in nearly two months.
• Mahindra Logistics - Up as much as 5.2% and trading at the highest level in nearly nine months. The stock is up for the third straight day.

• Gains as much as 13.1% to Rs 89.7
• Trading at the highest level since April 2019
• Up 24% in the last two trading sessions
• Stock in overbought territory with Relative Strength Index (RSI) at 84

• Adani Enterprises - Up 1.2%; gaining for the sixth straight day and at a record high
• Adani Green Energy - Up 1.4%; gaining for the fourth straight day and at a record high
• Adani Transmission - Up 2.4%; gaining for the sixth straight day and at a nine-month high

• The company's arm Kohima Mariani Transmission has successfully commissioned Element-2 of the Imphal-New Kohima Line of the project which now stands completed.
• The asset has been divested to CLP India and the process of transaction closure will be completed soon.
• Shares gained as much as 19% to Rs 304.8. This was the biggest single-day gain for the stock in seven months.
• The stock currently trades at the highest level in nearly three months.

• Gains as much as 3% to Rs 2,588
• Trading at the highest level since September 2018
• Up for the 10th straight day
• Longest winning streak since March 2011 (12 days)
• Has gained 27% in the last 10 trading sessions
• Trades above all key Daily Moving Averages

Samvat 2077 has begun on a strong note for India's equity markets. Benchmark indices have opened higher, scaling a new record high in the process.

The S&P BSE Sensex has opened 0.86% higher at 43,815 while the NSE Nifty 50 index has opened above the 12,800 mark - up 0.8% at 12,823.

Among the sectoral indices, the Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Media and Nifty Realty indices have opened with gains of 1% each.

The Nifty Bank, Nifty Auto and Nifty I.T. are up 0.8% while the Nifty I.T. and Nifty Pharma are trading with gains of over 0.5% each.

Broader markets are moving in tandem with the benchmarks. The Nifty Midcap index is up 0.8% while the Smallcap index is up 1%.

1,256 stocks on the NSE are trading with gains while 258 are declining at the start of mahurat trading.

The last few days of Samvat 2076 were pretty eventful for India's stock markets. The S&P BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty 50 not only recovered all their losses from the lows of March, but also scaled new record high levels.

As of the final closing levels of Samvat 2076, the Sensex had gained 10.7% for the year, while the Nifty was up 9.4%. However, despite gaining nearly 5,000 points in the last 10 trading sessions of the year, the Nifty Bank index ended Samvat 2076 with losses of over 3%.

Today's Mahurat trading session will take place between 6:15 P.M. to 7:15 P.M. with an eight minute pre-open session between 6 P.M. to 6:08 P.M.
