July Auto Sales: Tata Motors Sales Rise 21%, Royal Enfield Up 7%

Here’s how auto makers fared in July.

Tata Motors Sales Rise 21%

Tata Motors Ltd. sold 51,896 units last month, an increase of 21 percent from the year-ago month, according to its stock exchange filing.

Key sales highlights (YoY):

  • Domestic passenger vehicle sales up 14 percent at 17,079 units.
  • Domestical commercial vehicle sales up 25 percent at 34,817 units.
  • Exports up 44 percent at 4,971 units.

Hero MotoCorp Sales Rise 9%

Hero MotoCorp Ltd.'s sales grew 9 percent over the year-ago month to 6.79 lakh units, due to underlying demand growth.

“We are confident of carrying the growth trajectory forward and expect to grow at double-digit in the upcoming festive season,” said Chairman Pawan Munjal in a release acompanying the filing.

Going ahead, the automaker has lined up multiple new product launches, ahead of the festive season, such as the Xtreme 200R motorcycle and the 125cc scooters.


Royal Enfield Sales Up 7%

Eicher Motors Ltd. sold 69,063 motorcycles in July, an increase of 7 percent from last year, according to its stock exchange filing.

  • Sales of models with engine capacity up to 350 cc rose 5 percent to 63,713 units.
  • Sales of models with engine capacity exceeding 350 cc rose 37 percent to 5,350 units.
  • Exports more than doubled to 2,062 units.

TVS Motor Sales Rise 18%

TVS Motor Company Ltd. sold 3.21 lakh units in July, an increase of 18 percent from the year-ago month, according to its stock exchange filing.

Key sales highlights (YoY):

  • Two-wheeler sales rose 17 percent to 3.07 lakh units.
  • Scooter sales rose 29 percent to 1.18 lakh units.
  • Three-wheeler sales rose 70 percent to 13,323 units.
  • Exports rose 42 percent to 72,242 units.

M&M Sales Up 13%; Shares Swing

Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. sold 47199 units last month, an increase of 13 percent from the sales clocked in 2016, according to its stock exchange notification.

July sales highlights (YoY):

  • Passenger vehicle sales fell 6 percent to 19,781 units.
  • Utility vehicles sales fell 7 percent to 17,879 units.
  • Commercial vehicles sales rose 28 percent to 19,284 units.
  • Medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales rose 32 percent to 866 units.
  • Three wheeler sales rose 47 percent to 5,540 units.
  • Total domestic sales rose 12 percent to 44,605 units.
  • Total exports rose 31 percent to 2,594 units.

Farm equipment sales highlights (YoY):

  • Overall farm equipment sales rose 20 percent to 18,957 units.
  • Farm equipment sales in domestic market rose 21 percent to 17,804 units.
  • Exports fell 4 percent to 1,153 units.

Shares of the Mumbai-based automaker swung between gains and losses after the announcement.
