Indian equity markets began Samvat 2077 on a positive note, ending with gains of half a percent. This was the third successive Mahurat trading session where the markets ended with gains.
The S&P BSE Sensex closed 0.45% higher at 43,637 while the NSE Nifty 50 index gained 0.5% to close at 12,780. Both benchmarks registered their respective closing highs.
Oil marketing companies were the top performers in the session. BPCL ended with gains of nearly 5%, ahead of its disinvestment deadline on November 16 while Indian Oil Corporation also ended with gains of over 2.5%.
Metal stocks like Hindalco, JSW Steel and financial names like State Bank of India and Bajaj Finance were among the top laggards.
