Greece Sees Near 16% Increase in Cruise-Ship Tourists in 2019

(Bloomberg) --

Based on pre-bookings for 2020, this year’s cruise season in Greece is seen beating the 2019 performance that already beat forecasts, the Hellenic Ports Association said.

The number of tourists who arrived in Greece on cruise ships rose to just over 5.5 million people in 2019 from just under 4.8 million in 2018, according to an emailed statement.

The number of cruise ships calling at Greek ports last year beat estimates and increased 14.3% to 3,899 vessels from 3,410 in 2018. These ships docked at 38 of the association’s 43 member ports.

Piraeus Port saw a 15.8% jump in the number of so-called home-porting passengers, who began and ended their cruise at Greece’s largest harbor, to 410,512 travelers.
