France Vows Uncompromising Opposition to Renault Plant Closures

(Bloomberg) -- The French government will be “uncompromising” in its efforts to protect Renault SA production sites, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe told senators, according to Agence-France Presse.

The company must “take into account the realities of the country that hosts it and that, in a way, allows it to live,” AFP cites Philippe as saying.

Carmaker Renault is looking at closing factories in France as part of a restructuring to help it get through the coronavirus crisis, people familiar with the matter said earlier on Wednesday.

Dieppe and Les Fonderies de Bretagne may close and Flins near Paris, Renault’s largest French factory, could be repurposed to produce other goods such as prototypes. Other sites are also likely to be affected by the reorganization, the people said.
