FPIs Pull Out Rs 11,866 Crore From Domestic Markets In January So Far

Overseas investors pull out nearly half of the total amount they invested in Indian equity markets in 2021.

Overseas investors have pulled out a net sum of Rs 11,866 crore from the Indian equity markets in January so far. That's almost the half of the total investments received in 2021.

Foreign portfolio investors, according to National Securities Depository Ltd. data, net invested Rs 25,752 crore in equities last year. That compared with record investment of Rs 1.70 lakh crore received in 2020.

Overseas investors have sold equities worth Rs 50,387 crore in last four months amid concerns over high inflation, stimulus withdrawal and the talks of policy normalisation in U.S.

Net Outflows

  • Till Jan. 24, 2022: Rs 11,866 crore

  • Dec. 2021: Rs 19,026 crore

  • Nov. 2021: Rs 5,945 crore

  • Oct. 2021: Rs 13,550 crore

India's stock benchmarks dropped by over 2.5% so far in January. The S&P BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 fell 2.86% and 2.70% over the same period, respectively, compared with a 1.26% drop in the MSCI Emerging Markets Index.
