Bajaj Auto Clocks Best July Sales In Eight Years

Bajaj Auto’s sales rose for the twelfth straight month in July.

Bajaj Auto Ltd. clocked its best sales growth in July since 2010.

The Pune-based company sold 4 lakh units last month, an increase of 30 percent over the same period last year, it said in an exchange filing today. This was the twelfth straight month of sales growth for the two-and-three-wheeler maker. The company's motorcycle sales rose 25 percent on a yearly basis to 3.32 lakh units.

Commercial Vehicles: Best-Ever Monthly Sales

Bajaj Auto’s commercial vehicle segment clocked its highest-ever monthly sales in July, rising 59 percent year-on-year to 67,663 units, the company said.

  • Domestic sales jumped rose 67 percent to 36,078 units.
  • Exports sales rose 51 percent to 31,585 units.

Overall Exports Outperform

Bajaj Auto’s exports outpaced domestic sales on an overall basis. The automaker exported 1.6 lakh vehicles last month, an increase of 34 percent from the corresponding month in 2017. That compares with the local market sales growth of 27 percent.

The company exported 1.3 lakh motorcycles last month, an increase of 31 percent from the sales closed in July 2017.

Shares of the automaker rose as much as 2.5 percent to Rs 2,768 apiece on the bourses in early trade. This compared to 0.2 percent advance in the NSE Nifty Auto Index. The stock was the best performer on Sensex and Nifty.
