Indian equity benchmarks edged higher led by gains in IT heavyweights such as Infosys Ltd., Tech Mahindra Ltd. and HCL Technologies Ltd.

The S&P BSE Sensex Index rose as much as 0.4 percent to 34,470, while the NSE Nifty 50 Index advanced as much as 0.3 percent to 10,460.

Seventeen out of the 19 sectoral gauges compiled by BSE were trading higher led by the S&P BSE Information Technology Index’s 1.35 percent gain. On the flipside, the S&P BSE Oil & Gas Index was the top loser, down 0.42 percent.

Tata Motors: Slumps As Q4 Profit Halves

Shares of the Jaguar Land Rover owner fell as much as 4.4 percent to a 27-month low to Rs 295.80.

The company's profit halved in the March-ended quarter as losses at its Indian business continued and U.K. subsidiary JLR was hit by slower sales growth.

Trading volume was 6.4 times its 20-day average. Tata Motors trades at 13.4 times trailing 12-month earnings per share and 8.3 times its estimates for the coming year, Bloomberg data showed.

GAIL: Swings Ahead Of Earnings

Shares of the state-run natural gas distributor swung between gains and losses and traded at Rs 317 ahead of its results announcement.

GAIL India trades at 21.2 times trailing 12-month earnings per share and 15 times its estimates for the coming year, according to Bloomberg data. The stock has declined 14 percent so far this year but gained 10 percent in the past 52 weeks.

JM Financial: Swings After New 'Buy' Rating

Shares of the financial services provider swung between gains and losses and traded at Rs 131.55.

International brokerage and research firm Credit Suisse initiated coverage with ‘Neutral’ rating with a price target of Rs 150. The target price implies a potential upside of 14 percent from the last regular trade.

JM Financial trades at 22.5 times trailing 12-month earnings per share and 18 times its estimates for the coming year, according to Bloomberg data.

Minda Industries: Gains On Heavy Volumes

Shares of the auto parts maker rose as much as 5.2 percent to a four-month high to Rs 1,350.

Trading volume was 12.8 times its 20-day average. The Relative Strength Index was 78, indicating that the stock may be overbought. The stock returned 138 percent over the past year, compared to 15.3 percent advance in Sensex.

Jet Airways: Falls After Weak Q4

Shares of the airline operator fell as much as 12.1 percent to a 15-month low at Rs 370.05. The company reported a loss during January-March, according to its stock exchange filing.
