Real Estate Stocks Rule The Roost In 2017

The NSE’s Nifty Realty index more than doubled in value, making it the best performing sectoral gauge of 2017. In fact, the 110 percent jump was the highest-ever for the 10-member index since it was introduced by the National Stock Exchange in 2009.

The gains were led by Indiabulls Real Estate, which surged 185 percent. It was followed by Unitech, Sobha, and Godrej Properties -- which gained anywhere between 125 to 150 percent by end of the year.

Interestingly, in its nine-year history, the index has never advanced for two consecutive years.
