Indian shares declined as the nation’s plan to lower the goods and services tax on items including restaurants meals, furniture and shampoo sparked concerns over government finances.

The S&P BSE Sensex Index fell as much as 0.3 percent to 33,213, while the NSE Nifty 50 Index fell as much as 0.4 percent to trade below 10,300-mark. The market breadth was tilted in favour of the sellers. Fourteen out of the 19 sector gauges compiled by BSE Ltd. declined, led by the S&P BSE Realty Index’s 2 percent slump.

New India Assurance: Debuts On Dalal Street

The insurance service provider made its debut on stock exchanges at a discount of 6.4 percent at Rs 748.90 per share, compared to an issue price of Rs 800 apiece. The stock fell close to 10.32 percent to Rs 717.40 thereafter.

New India Assurance Company Ltd.’s Rs 9,600-crore initial public offering was subscribed 1.19 times.

Axis Bank: Plans To Raise Funds

Shares of the private sector lender rose as much as 3.7 percent to Rs 564.60.

The lender plans to raise Rs 11,625.8 crore via issue of equity shares and convertible warrants to Bain Capital and other investors, according to its stock exchange notification.

Axis Bank trades at 33.4 times trailing 12-month earnings per share and 37 times its estimates for the coming year. It has returned 24 percent so far this year and a gain of 12 percent in the past 52 weeks.

Idea Cellular: Sells Tower Business

Shares of the telecom operator fell as much as 6 percent, the most in nearly three months, to Rs 91.20.

The company, along with Vodafone India Ltd., approved the sale of their respective standalone telecom tower business to ATC Telecom Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd.

Besides, it also announced its quarterly results for the July-September period, where its posted wider-than-anticipated loss in the second quarter due to lower revenue, amid high levels of competition in the industry, according to a separate exchange notification.

The stock has returned 27.7 percent so far this year, compared to 26.5 percent advance in Sensex.

Coal India: Declines After Weak Earnings

Shares of the state-owned coal miner fell as much as 3.5 percent, the most in nearly three months to Rs 274.35.
