Bajaj Auto’s Sales Growth Hits 18-Month High In September

Bajaj Auto sold about 4.28 lakh units in September, an increase of 14 percent year-on-year.

Bajaj Auto Ltd. reported 14 percent increase in sales in September, its highest monthly sales growth rate since March 2016.

The Pune-based two-and-three-wheeler maker sold 4.28 lakh units last month compared to 3.76 lakh units in September 2016, according to its exchange notification.

Commercial Vehicles: Highest-Ever Sales

Bajaj Auto reported its best commercial vehicle division performance, with sales rising 32 percent to 59,074 units.

  • Domestic sales jumped 37 percent to 34,361 units
  • Exports rose 25 percent to 24,713 units.

Exports Outperform

The automaker sold 3.69 lakh motorcycles in September, an increase of 11 percent year-on-year. Exports outperformed, rising 20 percent to 1.22 lakh bikes, while local sales rose 7 percent to 2.47 lakh units.

Even on an overall basis, exports outpaced domestic sales. Bajaj Auto exported 1.46 lakh vehicles last month, an increase of 21 percent, compared to local market sales growth of 10 percent.
