As of 9 p.m., the Congress led in 114 seats in Madhya Pradesh’s 230-seat assembly, with the Bharatiya Janata Party six seats behind at 109. Counting has been slower than usual, so as you keep an eye on the headline number, there are 16 constituencies where leading candidates were ahead by less than 500 votes. Eight of these are from the BJP.

The narrowest gap was in Bhopal South West, where the Congress’ Prakash Sharma was leading by just six votes. Sachin Subhashchandra is the other Congress candidate who’s leading by less than 500 votes.

Two BJP candidates, Premnarayan Thakur, and KD Deshmukh are leading by less than 50 votes each.
