PM Modi To Head Cabinet Committees To Push Growth, Job Creation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi constituted two cabinet committees to address challenges around slowing economic growth and subdued job creation as his administration assumes charge a second time following the National Democratic Alliance’s landslide victory in the 2019 general election.

The prime minister will chair committees on investment and growth, and employment and skill development, according to a statement by the Press Information Bureau.

Ministers on the committee for investment and growth are:

  • Amit Shah, minister of home affairs.
  • Nitin Gadkari, minister of road transport and highways; and micro, small and medium enterprises.
  • Nirmala Sitharaman, minister of finance and corporate affairs.
  • Piyush Goyal, minister of railways; and commerce and industry.

Ministers on the committee for employment and skill development:

  • Amit Shah, minister of home affairs.
  • Nirmala Sitharaman, minister of finance and corporate affairs.
  • Narendra Singh Tomar, minister of agriculture and farmer welfare; rural development; and panchayati raj.
  • Piyush Goyal, minister of railways; and commerce and industry.
  • Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, minister of human resource development.
  • Dharmendra Pradhan, minister of petroleum and natural gas; and steel.
  • Mahendra Nath Pandey, minister of skill development and entrepreneurship.
  • Santosh Kumar Gangwar, minister of state (labour and employment).
  • Hardeep Singh Puri, minister of state (housing and urban affairs; civil aviation; and commerce and industry).

Gadkari, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, minister of food processing industries; Smriti Irani, minister of women and child Development and textiles; and Prahlad Singh Patel, minister of state for culture and tourism; are special invitees to the committee.

Many cabinet committees like cabinet committees on economic affairs, parliamentary affairs, political affairs, security, among others, are being reconstituted to induct new ministers.
