Nine Secretaries, Eight Special Secretaries Appointed In Bureaucrat Reshuffle

In a major bureaucratic reshuffle, 9 officials upgraded to secretary rank. 8 officers appointed as special secretary.

The central government approved the transfer of nine senior Indian Administrative Service officers, while upgrading the rank of eight in their current roles.

Senior IAS officer Pankaj Jain has been appointed secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet said in a statement on Monday. The 1990-batch officer is currently additional secretary in the Department of Financial Services.

The other transfers and appointments include:

  • Leena Nandan, 1987-batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been moved to the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change as secretary from the Department of Consumer Affairs.

  • Vini Mahajan, currently in cadre, has been named secretary, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti.

  • Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer Sanjay Kumar Singh appointed secretary, Ministry of Steel. Currently, he serves in the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances and Department of Pensions and Pensioners Welfare.

  • Rajeev Ranjan, special secretary at Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, will now be secretary, National Commission for Backward Classes in the rank and pay of secretary to the Government of India.

  • Bharat Lal, serving as additional secretary in the Ministry of Jal Shakti, has been appointed secretary, Lokpal.

  • Rohit Kumar Singh has been named secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs. He serves as special secretary, Ministry of Culture, appointed.

  • V Srinivas appointed as secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances and Department of Pensions and Pensioners’ Welfare.

  • Manoj Joshi names officer on special duty, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. He will take over as secretary from Dec. 31.

The officers who have been upgraded to the level of special secretary in the rank and pay of secretary, Government of India, in their current positions include:

  • Sanjay Malhotra, chairman and managing director of REC Ltd.

  • Alkesh Kumar Sharma, additional secretary at Cabinet Secretariat.

  • Raj Kumar Goyal, additional secretary and financial advisor, Ministry of External Affairs.
