The Bharatiya Janata Party-government is seeking to corner Congress on women empowerment issues as it urged the opposition to join hands for the passage of bills on women’s reservation, instant triple talaq and nikah halala during the Monsoon session of the Parliament.

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today wrote to Congress president Rahul Gandhi suggesting that the party and the BJP get together to pass the three bills, as well as the measure on providing constitutional status to the National Commission on Backward classes, passed in Parliament.

This was in response to the letter written by Gandhi to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring the bill on granting one-third reservation to women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Prasad wrote to Gandhi as his ministry deals with the issue of reservation in legislatures and personal laws.
