The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested 11 people during further investigation of a case in connection with illegal investment schemes that were being operated without statutory approval through which around Rs 60,000 crore was allegedly collected from more than 5.5 crore investors.

The arrests were made in Delhi, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar and other places, the investigating agency said in a statement on Thursday.

The 11 people, the CBI said, were co-conspirators who aided the prime accused and others in illegally operating investment schemes to earn quick money. It didn't make any mention about who the prime accused were.

The co-conspirators, the statement said, induced people to invest their funds in such schemes by offering lucrative returns and diverted funds through dubious means to misappropriate them, it said.

They were produced before a special court on Thursday—eight among whom were remanded in CBI custody, while three were sent to judicial custody.
