Live: Arvind Kejriwal Sent To ED Custody Till March 28 In Excise Policy Case

21 AAP workers including Delhi Minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj released from Bawana Police station, reported ANI. They were detained during the party's protest against the arrest of CM Arvind Kejriwal at ITO today.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been sent to a seven-day Enforcement Directorate custody.

Arvind Kejriwal was produced in the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi today where probe agency Enforcement Directorate requested for a 10-day custody. Earlier, AAP ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj were detained by the police during the party's protest against Kejriwal's arrest last night by the Enforcement Directorate in the Delhi liquor policy case.

AAP workers began their protest at Delhi's ITO, where security has been stepped up. Paramilitary personnel in riot gear have been deployed to quell any protests. All roads leading to AAP's office in Delhi have been blocked.

Kejriwal has withdrawn a Supreme Court petition against his arrest, sources told NDTV. The chief minister will now approach a lower court over his arrest on Thursday night by a 12-member team of the probe agency which reached his official residence with a search warrant.

A Delhi Court has remanded Arvind Kejriwal to ED custody till March 28 in the excise policy case. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja at the Rouse Avenue court passed the remand order after hearing detailed submissions by the ED as well as Kejriwal's counsel.

The probe agency had sought 10 days remand. The court has asked ED to produce Kejriwal before the court on March 28.

Delhi Rouse Avenue Court's Special Judge reserves the order on the ED application seeking 10 days custodial remand of CM Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case. The order will be passed shortly.

AAP MLAs and councillors are at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence to meet his family, the party said.

A Public Interest Litigation, or PIL, was filed in the Delhi High Court today seeking Arvind Kejriwal's removal from the post of the Chief Minister after his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in an excise policy-linked money laundering case. According to court sources, the petition has some defects and will be listed for hearing once these are rectified, reported news agency PTI.

Arvind Kejriwal spoke to reporters while he was being produced in court. "My life is dedicated to the country, no matter where I am - in jail or outside," he said, his first reaction after arrest.

The AAP has claimed that Arvind Kejriwal's arrest will prove to be the biggest political mistake of the BJP.

As Delhi cabinet ministers Atishi, Bharadwaj and others tried to proceed towards the BJP headquarters around 11 am, they were taken away in police buses. Police officers were seen asking protesters to disperse as prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure were in force in the area.

The test for arrest is more stringent because the grounds for bail are more stringent under PMLA, Singhvi said. He argues the need to further trace the money trail can't be a ground of arrest of the accused when the agency can put up questions.

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi has started his submissions before the court, appearing for Arvind Kejriwal.

"Rs 45 crore have been used in Goa elections. This policy was implemented by Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh. Vijay Nair is Kejriwal's right-hand man. He used to collect kickbacks for Kejriwal, enforce policies and threaten those who disobeyed. The proceeds of crime include not only bribes of Rs 100 crores, but also the profits earned by the bribe payers. It was over Rs 600 crore," Additional Solicitor General SV Raju told the court.

Protests erupted outside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence on Thursday night after his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in an excise policy-linked money laundering case.

The Delhi Police has detained around two dozen Aam Aadmi Party workers, including MLAs, who were trying to block the road near the chief minister's residence.

Party leaders and workers started gathering in the area while the Enforcement Directorate was questioning Kejriwal at his residence.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in an liquor policy-linked money laundering case. The probe agency has named the 55-year-old leader several times in charge-sheet linked with the case.

The Aam Admi Party convener has moved the Supreme Court against his arrest, requesting urgent hearing in the matter. A legal team went to meet the Registrar of the Supreme Court on Thursday to request 'quashing' of the arrest.

The arrest, the first of a sitting chief minister, came hours after the Delhi High Court refused to grant protection to the AAP national convenor from any coercive action by the agency.
