The Supreme Court asked the investigating agencies to complete all probes in 2G spectrum allocation case and other related matters within six months.

The top court bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra expressed displeasure with the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate about the delay. “Why has the probe not been completed in four years. The country wants to know,” Justice Mishra asked the CBI.

The Patiala House Court has already acquitted Former Telecom Minister A Raja, DMK leader Kanimozhi and other accused in the 2G spectrum case. The pending probes relate to the Aircel-Maxis case in which charges against Dayanidhi Maran and others have been dropped. The investigation relating to the role of Malaysia-based Ralph Marshall and T Ananda Krishnan are still pending.

The top court didn’t entertain the plea challenging the appointment of Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta as the Special Public Prosecutor in the 2G case. The government had appointment Mehta in place of Senior Advocate Anand Grover, and the court allowed the discharge of Grover.

The petitioner, Centre for Public Interest Litigation, had said that Mehta’s appointment was a contempt of court. The top court did not share the view of petitioners and held that no case has been made out against the government.
