Euro-Area Job Vacancies May Have Become Tougher to Fill

(Bloomberg) -- The euro area’s Beveridge curve is one way of gauging how structural unemployment has changed: It compares the relationship between unemployment and vacancy rates over time and is a measure of matching efficiency in the labor market. The curve -- which is now consistent with lower matching efficiency than in the years before and immediately following the financial crisis -- currently suggests that filling jobs in the 19-nation region has become tougher, according to research by Bloomberg Economics.
