Emerging Market ETFs Fall for 2nd Week in $456.6 Mln Streak
(Bloomberg) -- Investors withdrew money from exchange-traded funds that buy emerging market stocks and bonds last week. This was the second straight week of outflows.
Outflows from U.S.-listed emerging market ETFs that invest across developing nations as well as those that target specific countries totaled $111.6 million in the week ended Aug. 20, compared with losses of $344.9 million in the previous week, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. So far this year, inflows have totalled $34.4 billion.
- Stock ETFs contracted by $115.8 million.
- Bond funds rose by $4.13 million.
- Total assets fell to $334.6 billion from $347.5 billion.
- The MSCI Emerging Markets Index closed down 4.7 percent from the previous week at 1,220.78 points, the lowest level since Nov 30, 2020.
- China/Hong Kong had the biggest outflow, of $185.1 million, following withdrawals from DWS Xtrackers' Xtrackers Harvest CSI 300 China A-Shares.
- South Africa had the biggest inflow, of $53.3 million, led by iShares MSCI South Africa.
