Worldquant's Chropuvka Seeks to Motivate Quants
(Bloomberg Opinion) -- What is the best way to motivate the financial engineers and “quants” that permeate Wall Street? For Gary Chropuvka, the president of hedge fund Worldquant, the solution is to run competitive challenges and offer incentives to those who develop innovations that help returns exceed benchmarks. Chropuvka, who is this week’s guest on the Masters in Business podcast, is in charge of business strategy at the firm, helps manage operations and participates in the firm's investment strategies.
World Quant, which manages about $7 billion, was founded by Igor Tulchinsky, who spun it out of Millennium Management in 2007. The firm has a global footprint and employees a substantial team of quants. Chropuvka was previously co-head of the Quantitative Investment Strategies team at Goldman Sachs Group Inc.’s asset management unit.
