YouTube TV Goes Dark for an Hour During World Cup Semifinals
(Bloomberg) -- YouTube TV, a live-streaming service, went dark during the World Cup soccer semifinal match between England and Croatia.
The service tweeted an apology for the “horrible” timing of the livestream malfunction at about 3 p.m. New York time Wednesday. The outage came less than an hour after YouTube TV tweeted a tongue-in-cheek jab at sports fans cheering for one of the teams in the match: “Hey #ENG fans, are you guys okay?”
YouTube TV, part of Google’s YouTube video service, has leaned more on live sports to draw consumers to its platform. Earlier this year, YouTube TV bolstered its base package by adding networks from the National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball.
Streaming resumed about an hour after the outage while the soccer match continued. “We are so sorry about the service interruption and we understand your frustration,” the service said in a Twitter post.
