Elections 2019: It’s All About Families In These Lok Sabha Seats

From Hyderabad to Guna, voters of these constituencies have reposed faith in one family for decades.

Amethi, Rae Bareli and Baramati—these constituencies immediately bring to a voter’s mind the families that have dominated the political landscape there for decades.

But there are others where multiple generations of a single family have won the people’s mandate for several years like the Owaisis of Hyderabad and the Scindias of Guna.

A trend here is that voters have kept the family name in mind in certain Lok Sabha seats even if family members belonged to different political parties.

BloombergQuint analysed some of these constituencies considering the following factors:

  • A candidate or its immediate kin have represented the constituency for a sum of five or more terms and;
  • There would not be a gap of more than five years (if any) between two successive terms.
