Election Results 2019: Seats Where BJP Did Not Miss The Absence Of Stalwarts

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s strategy to field newcomers in many Lok Sabha seats that were once held by senior leaders worked wonders.

Shankar Lalwani, former Chairman of the Indore Development Authority, contested from the former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan’s seat in Indore; Tirath Singh Rawat was given a ticket from Garhwal, from where BC Khanduri had won five times; and rookie Tejaswi Surya was fielded from Bangalore South, the bastion of the late parliamentarian HN Ananth Kumar. Party President Amit Shah decided to step into the big boots of the six-time parliamentarian LK Advani in Gandhinagar.

The gamble also surpassed the expectations of political pundits. The candidates not only ensured that these seats remained BJP bastions, but also managed to improve the victory margin in each of these seats.

Lalwani won by a margin of 5.47 lakh votes, which was higher than in any of Mahajan’s eight terms. Shah, Surya and Tirath Singh Rawat also won by convincing margins.
