Seven Shortlisted For RBI Deputy Governor Post, Interviews On Nov. 7

The RBi deputy governor’s post had fallen vacant after Viral Acharya’s resignation—six months before the end of his term.

A search panel headed by the Cabinet Secretary is scheduled to interview next week seven candidates shortlisted for the post of the RBI deputy governor, sources said.

The post had fallen vacant after Viral Acharya resigned in July—six months before the end of his term. The Reserve Bank of India has four deputy governors. At present, there are three RBI deputy governors—NS Vishwanathan, BP Kanungo and MK Jain.

The Financial Sector Regulatory Appointment Search Committee has shortlisted about seven names who have been called for the interview on Nov. 7, the sources said. The search panel also includes the RBI governor, financial services secretary and some independent members.

According to a public notice, the appointment will be for a period of three years and the person will be eligible for re-appointment.
