7 Kg Ration For 80 Crore People

The central government will provide 7Kg ration to 80 crore people in India, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar announced after a cabinet meeting. Subsidised food grains will be provided—wheat at Rs 2 per kg and rice at Rs 3 per kg.

The Union Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is set to announce decisions taken in a meeting at 3 p.m. The conference will be led by Information & Broadcast Minister Prakash Javdekar.

This comes amid wide expectations of a financial plan for daily labourers who work in the unorganised sector that are likely to get the short end of the stick amid a nationwide lockdown.

In a speech last night, Modi announced at 21-day lockdown across India, saying the next three weeks will be critical in fighting the coronavirus and a slip in this could lead to massive damage to lives.

A coronavirus economic task force is currently working on an overall financial plan, according to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman who is also heading the force.
