India added as many as 22,775 fresh infections in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.

India added the most fresh coronavirus infections in nearly three months at a time when the Omicron variant is spreading fast across the country.

The world's second-most populous nation added as many as 22,775 fresh infections in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry's update at 8 a.m. on Jan. 1. That compares with 8,949 recoveries during the same period.
