Omicron Tally Rises 5% In A Day

India added more than 2.6 lakh fresh Covid-19 cases for the second straight day as the Omicron variant continues to spread through the world's second most populous country.

The nation reported as many as 2.68 lakh fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update at 8 a.m. on Jan. 15. That compares with 1.22 lakh recoveries recorded during the period.

Omicron tally rose 5% in a day to 6,041 cases.

Active cases rose for the eighteenth straight day as daily recoveries continued to lag fresh infections. Active infections account for 3.85% of India’s total tally, while recoveries form 94.83%. The last time India's total active cases exceeded more than 14.17 lakh was on June 6, 2021.
