Dharavi Records Six New Covid-19 Cases, Including One Death

Dharavi recorded six new confirmed cases of Covid-19, including one death, taking the total count of infected in Mumbai’s biggest slum to 220.

A 69-year-old woman from Dharavi’s Gopinath Colony died due to the new coronavirus, said said Kiran Dighavkar, assistant commissioner in charge of the G/North Ward in Central Mumbai.

Of the remaining five cases, two were recorded in Kalayanwadi and one each in Janta Nagar, Banwari Compound Gally, and Maulana Azad Nagar areas of Dharavi, said Dighavkar.

Among the latest to test positive are four women between 38 years and 60 years, and two men aged 36 years and 74 years.

So far, 14 people have died because of complications related to Covid-19 in Dharavi, a sprawl of shanties spread over 240 hectares with a population of 8.5 lakh and over 13,000 small businesses.

According to Maharashtra Health Ministry’s media bulletin, 394 Covid-19 cases were recorded in the state on Friday, taking the tally to 6,817 cases. The total number of cases in Mumbai stands at 4,447.
