Dharavi Records 84 New Covid-19 Cases Today

Dharavi recorded 84 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 today taking the total count of infected people in Mumbai’s biggest slum to 1,145.

Among the latest to test positive are women aged between 11 years and 72 years and men aged between 18 years and 76 years, said Kiran Dighavkar, assistant commissioner in charge of the G/North Ward in Central Mumbai.

The epidemic cell announced four more deaths in Dharavi, taking the total toll to 53, added Dighavkar. “These four people passed away earlier on different dates and the deaths were conveyed to ward office subsequently.”

Dharavi is a sprawl of shanties spread over 240 hectares with a population of 8.5 lakh and over 13,000 small businesses.

Of the 84 fresh cases:

  • 17 were from Matunga Labour Camp.
  • Three each from 90 Feet Road, Sant Kakaiyya Marg, Mukund Nagar, Subhash Nagar, and Mohd Chawl.
  • Two each from Dharavi Police Station, Dr. Ambedkar Road, Transit Camp, Shetwadi, Kumbharwada, Indira Nagar, Dharavi Cross Road, Vijay Nagar, Om Sai Garden Chawl, and Rehmat Hotel
  • One each from ABC Colony, Mahatma Gandhi Nagar, Sanjay Chawl, MG Road, Prince Park Building, Shastri Nagar, Sri Baba Nagar, Baliga Nagar, Tata Power Colony, Shiv Shakti Nagar, Jalil Compund, Rani Laxmi Chawl, Shetta Paleshwar, Dhorwada, Ganesh Vikas Mandal, PMGP Colony, Kunchikore Nagar, Kalyanwadi, Kerusheth Chawl, Kranti Nagar, Azad Nagar, Mubadeer Nagar, Kamraj Nagar, RP Nagar, Ganesh Rahiwasi Sangh, Rajiv Gandhi Society, BML Wadi, Kamla Nagar, Mahatma Gandhi Society, Netaji Society, Gopal Mistry Chawl, Ashok Mill Compound

According to Maharashtra health ministry’s media bulletin on Friday, 1,576 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the state, taking the total tally to 29,100 . The total number of cases in Mumbai stands at 17,671.
