Dharavi Records 50 New Covid-19 Cases Today

The total number of infected people in Mumbai’s biggest slum rose to 783.

Dharavi recorded 50 new confirmed cases of Covid-19, taking the total count of infected people in Mumbai’s biggest slum to 783.

Among the latest to test positive are women aged between 12 years and 76 years and men aged between 5 years and 80 years, said Kiran Dighavkar, assistant commissioner in charge of the G/North Ward in Central Mumbai.

So far, 21 people have died of complications related to the virus in Dharavi, a sprawl of shanties spread over 240 hectares with a population of 8.5 lakh and over 13,000 small businesses.

Of the 50 fresh cases:

  • Three each from Municipal Chawl, Mukund Nagar, PMGP Colony, 60 Feet Road, and Matunga Labour Camp.
  • Two each from Shankar Kavde Chawl, Samata Rahivashi Sangh Kelabakhar, Chaugule Chawl, 90 Feet Road and Kumbharwada.
  • One each from Wing United Residency, Maharana Pratap Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Mahesh Chawl, Chawl Number 2, Shamallah Compound, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Laxman Chawl, Kharbanda New Chawl, Raman Villa Khirji Road, Wall Tower, Vijay Nagar, Gul Mohd Chawl, Jai Ganesh Building, Megh Mahal, Kamraj Nagar, Matunga, Indira Nagar, Sitabai Chawl, Gandhi Nagar, Transit Camp.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Maharashtra has 16,758 cases of Covid-19.
