Dharavi Records 33 New Covid-19 Cases; Total At 665, Including 20 Deaths

Dharavi recorded 33 new confirmed cases of Covid-19, taking the total count of infected people in Mumbai’s biggest slum to 665.

Among the latest to test positive are women aged between 7 years and 75 years and men aged between 16 years and 65 years, said Kiran Dighavkar, assistant commissioner in charge of the G/North Ward in Central Mumbai.

So far, 20 people have died of complications related to Covid-19 in Dharavi, a sprawl of shanties spread over 240 hectares with a population of 8.5 lakh and over 13,000 small businesses.

Of the 33 fresh cases:

  • Nine are from 90 Feet Road.
  • Five from Indira Nagar.
  • Two from Municipal Chawl.
  • One each from Ambedkar Chawl, Kumbharwada, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Madina Nagar, PMGP Colony, Gangadhar Chawl, Vijay Nagar, Mukund Nagar, Social Nagar, Tata Colony, Abu Bakr Chawl, Janta CHS, 60 Feet Road, Dharavi PC, Matunga Labour Camp, Kalyanwadi and Shastri Nagar.

“So far, 83,500 people have been screened in Dharavi, 2,380 institutional quarantined and 196 have been discharged,” Dighavkar said.

According to Maharashtra health ministry’s media bulletin on Tuesday, 841 new Covid-19 cases were reported taking the total tally to 15,525. The total number of cases in Mumbai stands at 9,945.
