Dharavi Records 33 New Covid-19 Cases Today, Including Two Deaths

Dharavi recorded 33 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 today, including two deaths, taking the total count of infected people in Mumbai’s biggest slum to 1,061.

A 70-year-old male from Vaibhav CHS (cooperative housing society) died due to Covid-19 along with a 40-year-old female from Indira Nagar (who had earlier tested positive), said Kiran Dighavkar, assistant commissioner in charge of the G/North Ward in Central Mumbai. “293 people have been discharged so far”.

The Epidemic Cell announced seven more deaths in Dharavi taking the total count of deaths to 49, Dighavkar said. “These seven people passed away earlier on different dates and the deaths were conveyed to ward office subsequently.”

Among the latest to test positive are women aged between 15 years and 70 years and men aged between 30 years and 70 years.

Dharavi is a sprawl of shanties spread over 240 hectares with a population of 8.5 lakh and over 13,000 small businesses.

Of the 33 fresh cases:

  • Five were from Kumbharwada.
  • Four from Matunga Labour Camp.
  • Two each from Chamda Bazaar and Jeevanjyot Rahiwasi Sangh.
  • One each from Vaibhav CHS, Indira Nagar, Sitaram Koli Chawl, Azad Nagar, Sant Kakaiyya Marg, Transit camp, Ambedkar Road, Kamla Nehru Nagar, Dharavi Cross Road, 90 Feet Road, Punawali Chawl Dharavi Main Road, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Shatabdi Nagar, Abu Bakr Chawl, Gul Mohd Chawl, Anjunam Association Chawl, Mukund Nagar, Samadhan Society, Sakinabai Chawl and Madina Compound.

According to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Maharashtra has 25,922 cases of Covid-19.
