Dharavi Records 25 New Covid-19 Cases Today

The total count of infected people in Mumbai’s biggest slum rose to 808.

Dharavi recorded 25 new confirmed cases of Covid-19, taking the total count of infected people in Mumbai’s biggest slum to 808.

Among the latest to test positive are women aged between 20 years and 55 years and men aged between 23 years and 70 years, said Kiran Dighavkar, assistant commissioner in charge of the G/North Ward in Central Mumbai.

Five more deaths were added today taking the total count to 26. However, these new deaths were recorded at different times and not today, Dighavkar said. “222 people have been discharged so far.”

Dharavi, is a sprawl of shanties spread over 240 hectares with a population of 8.5 lakh and over 13,000 small businesses.

Of the 25 fresh cases:

  • Five were from Matunga Labour Camp
  • Two from Rajiv Gandhi Nagar
  • One each from Kunchikurve Nagar, Azad Nagar, Gandhi Nagar CHS, Shastri Nagar, Madina Compound, Muslim Nagar, New Municipal Chawl, Kala Killa, Cross Road Jayguru CHS, Transit Camp, Fatima Chawl, PMGP Colony, Balaji Nagar, KM Chawl, Dharavi PC, Dharavi Main Road, Samadhan CHS, Indira Nagar.

According to Maharashtra health ministry’s media bulletin on Friday, 1,089 new Covid-19 cases were reported today taking the total tally to 19,063. Total number of cases in Mumbai stands at 12,142.
