Dharavi Records 25 New Covid-19 Cases, Including One Death

Dharavi recorded 25 new confirmed cases of Covid-19, including one death, taking the total count of infected in Mumbai’s biggest slum to 214.

A 69-year-old man from Dharavi’s Shastri Nagar died due to the new coronavirus, said said Kiran Dighavkar, assistant commissioner in charge of the G/North Ward in Central Mumbai.

Of the remaining 24 cases, three were recorded on 90 Feet Road area of Dharavi; two each from Mukund Nagar, Azad Nagar, Dharavi Cross Road, Matunga Labour Camp and Indira Nagar; and one each from Kuttiwadi, Pilla Bungalow, Sant Kakiyya Marg, Kumbhar Wada, Kalyanwadi, Chamda Bazaar, Dharavi Chawl, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Kunchikorave Nagar, Netaji soc, Shatsri Nagar added Dighavkar.

Among the latest to test positive are six women between 30 years and 55 years, and 19 men aged between 20 years and 70 years

So far, 13 people have died because of complications related to Covid-19 in Dharavi, a sprawl of shanties spread over 240 hectares with a population of 8.5 lakh and over 13,000 small businesses.

According to Maharashtra Health Ministry’s media bulletin, 778 Covid-19 cases were recorded in the state on Thursday, taking the tally to 6,427 cases. The total number of cases in Mumbai stands at 4,205.
