India continued to report over 35,000 Covid-19 infections daily, as a projected third wave threatens to disrupt the country's economic activity.

As many as 36,571 people tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 3.23 crore in the world’s second-most populous nation, according to the Health Ministry’s update on Aug. 20, 2021.

However, daily infections have remained below the 40,000-mark for seven days in a row.

The active case load rose marginally to 3.63 lakh, which constitutes 1.12% of the country's total tally.

  • Total deaths: 4,33,589

  • Number of fresh cases in last 24 hours: 36,571

  • Number of recoveries in a day: 36,555

  • Deaths recorded in a day: 540

  • Total vaccine doses administered: 57,22,81,488

  • Doses administered in the last 24 hours: 54,71,282

Meanwhile, 540 patients succumbed to the deadly pathogen, with the total death toll creeping up to 4.33 lakh.

The country also passed the 50-crore mark in total tests conducted.
