Covid-19 India Updates: New Cases Remain Below 40,000-Mark For Third Straight Day

India's daily Covid-19 infection rate remained below the 40,000-mark even as the nation's healthcare system braces for a third wave.

Nearly 35,500 people tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry's Aug. 9 update. Fresh cases stayed below 40,000 for the third straight day.

India's active case load also dropped marginally to 4.02 lakh, as daily recoveries exceeded new cases.

Total deaths reported due to the deadly pathogen, however, continued to rise. 447 patients succumbed to the illness over the past 24 hours, with the total toll exceeding 4.28 lakh.
