CoWIN Launches KYC-VS To Enable Firms To Check Individual’s Status Of Vaccination
Indian government’s web portal for Covid-19 vaccination registration, CoWIN has developed a new API (Application Programming Interface) called ‘Know Your Customer’s/Client’s Vaccination Status’ or KYS-VS. The new update on the CoWIN platform will enable entities to know if an individual has been vaccinated or not, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in a press release.
How to use the new API?
Users need to enter their mobile number and name in the API in CoWIN platform, after which they will get an OTP in the mobile number, which they have to enter.
After this, Co-WIN will send a response to the verifying entity on the individual’s status of vaccination. The response will be digitally signed and can be shared with the verifying entity.
Status of Vaccination
There are three categories. ‘0’ means that the person is not vaccinated, ‘1’ means that the person is partially vaccinated and ‘2’ means the person is fully vaccinated.
KYC-VS is both consent-based and privacy preserving, said the Health ministry statement which identified instances where this new API may be applicable.
Enterprise/employers who need to know the vaccination status of employees before they resume functions in offices.
The Railways and Airlines may want to know the status of vaccination of passengers who are getting their seats/tickets reserved/booked.
Besides these, hotels and any other service provider, private or public, for whom verifying the vaccination status is critical for facilitating a service requested, can use the new API.
